Ammo and other related items are coming back to the shelves

Not sure what you all are seeing, but I was out at a few places this weekend and I'm seeing some ammo and other items that could not be had before, no matter how much cash you had...

Rounds I looked for and was able to find...
.223
.9mm
.40
.45
.7.62x39

Most still to high for my liking, but atleast its obtainable and not as High has I've seen it...

Lets hope it continues and the price will drop some... Not counting on it, but lets hope...

I noticed no .308 on your list.

Do you recall any of the prices (grain weights and manufacturers)?

Thanks!

Don't recall prices, just remember they are still higher than I was paying a few months before Barak took over...

I did not see much .308 at Walmart, but I saw a bunch at Bass Pro and Cabelas....

When I can find it, I like the Blue Box Federal .308 for my Remington 700, similar to the pic below...

http://tbn3.google.com/images?q=tbn:...federal308.jpg

Before Barak, I was paying like 13.00 a box for them and my rifle seems to like them...

Virtually nothing at Wal-Marts around here, virtually nothing at Big-5s around here, MidwayUSA mostly "Out of Stock, No Backorder," CheaperThanDirt out on most items, Cabela's mostly out of stock, weeks of backorder projected. A bit of common pistol & rifle rounds at the local gun shops, 150% of "normal" prices.

Not sure where you're seeing any changes.

Maybe your local Wal-Marts sent a truck directly over to the Winchester plant in East Alton, IL, and picked it up.

I often wish I could do that...

hmmm, anyone know if you can buy direct???

Is there a driveup/Will call???

My best friend/Neighbor has as Bobcat that we can take the bucket off and put forks on to pick up a pallet or two... :)

ammo still dry as hell here. When you can find it its more overpriced than even the over priced internet vendors.

Had to test out my SKS the other, range charged 13 bucks per box of 7.62
Can get it online cheaper, but cant bring it into the ONLY range that allows 7.62 in my county.

Snuck some brown bear in there though, made some pretty nice sparks on the back stop ;)

I wouldn't say that.. There has never been a point here where I live that I COULD NOT get any ammo that I wanted, except maybe .380 (Don't need that anyway), I know where to look and it's been a matter of: Do I want to pay what these gougers are asking? Most of the time the answer is no.. I've had good fortune picking up quite a bit at Wally World lately.. It's coming in, it's just a matter of getting there before everyone else does.. Check early and often..

I saw some .40 S&W at Wally World a few days ago.

Re: Ammo and other related items are coming back to the shelves

I've noticed that my two local WalMarts have a little more variety of ammunition and they seem to have it a little more frequently now compared with two months ago - 9mm, .45 ACP, .357 Mag. and 12 Gauge 00 Buck. I counted 20 100 round boxes of WWB 9mm on the shelves early one morning last week and it was all gone when I returned the next day. WalMarts here are still rationing 6 boxes per person per day.
Take care,

A portion of what I posted this in the "gun Show Report" Thread...This was out in WA State. Keep in mind that the last few shows out here had completely ran out of ammo wihtin the first half hour.
---------

You are right lots of Ammo - was a good sign. They had some .223 @ $350 for 1k as well.

I picked up some factory new .44 mag @ $29 for 50 rounds. They had many cases of .223 .308 and full stock of everything else.

All-in-all I am glad I have been holding off on the bulk ammo purchases and other items that had been driven up over the last 6 months.

We have our next show July 18th & 19th - (iirc) - I'll be curious where the pricing is there. it looks like the panic buying is done and we shoudl see lots of folks who "invested" pouring their black rifles back onto the market and the ammo manufacturers should have more than the market is absorbing - just my speculation.

Re: Ammo and other related items are coming back to the shelves

Well I just got back from Scheles here in Iowa after making my first ammo purchase. Don't really know if I got a good deal or not. I need the high velocity rounds for a P22. They had 100 case Mini-Mag for $7. I don't really care as it was a small purchase and I didn't have enough rounds left to fill my mags. :no_ma:

I looked around a little bit and I am definitely a noob, but they had about half full shelves for the large caliber hand guns. Some 38 special, 44 magnum, but they were out of lots of other sizes and types. Still had lots of limit 2, limit 1, signs, etc. In fact, the person right before me bought some 22 hollow points and got two boxes only because he had a friend with him.

Re: Ammo and other related items are coming back to the shelves

Walmart shelves still virtually bare here...save a few boxes of expensive 7.62x39 and 30-06 hunting ammo.

Unclad Lad 06-15-2009 11:39 PM

Re: Ammo and other related items are coming back to the shelves

"On the shelf but obscenely expensive" has been the case for most common calibers around here; maybe not with the variety available before, but if you're OK with paying $10 for a box of 20 "Golden Tiger" lacquered steel-cased 7.62X39, then plenty of ammo is available.

When you can walk into any store that sells ammo and walk out with .380 Auto, then the crisis is over.

What town in Iowa? I was at the Scheels in Sioux City today and they just got a large shipment in. Prices still are high but they had pretty much everything....but than again the truck just came in.

Thats awsome... If we keep seeing posts and people making comments like these, maybe word will get around and it will ease the paranoia.. Then maybe things will get ""Closer"" to where they were... Price and stock wise..

Local Gun Show Report

Prices are still high but stabilizing and availability is up!

At the local gun show today the only pistol calibers still scarce were .38 .357 .380 & .45 (available but expensive at 8/10 FRN per bullet and up).

All rifle calibers available with the exception of .30 Carbine.

Battle packs of Portuguese .308 for $160 and .223 from 1/2 FRN and up per bullet.

Plenty of AR uppers ranging in price from Bushmasters for $700 and Noveskes for $1900.

AR Lowers ranging from $150 to $300.

Gas piston AR uppers for $1500 each.

Lots of buying activity, especially ammo, and I even heard rumors that earlier in the day some primers were available.

The AR availability and activity was off the charts, so I am very happy.

Hit a local gunshop today. Everything pretty much in stock except 10mm. One of the workers said it's been hard to get. Shouldn't be since few people use it (i.e. not a big military or police caliber).

Anyone go the annual Miwall Father's Day Sale?

.38, .357, 32 auto, 9mm, 7.62X54R, 7.62X39, 6.5X55, and so many others. Piled loose on 9 huge tables. Lots of sorting, and digging, to get as many good rounds as possible on a table filled with defects--missing primer, backward primer, crumpled cases, bullets loaded too deep or backward. Five hours at it, I was. And you have been too, seeing all the good ammo mixed in, and hauling it away at Five Cents a Round.

This, friends, was an Ammo Orgy. They had to kick me out! :565:

Shitty as always.

Wal-Mart: almost nothing.

Favorite local gun store: spotty, pistol/revolver calibers very depleted, some .22LR in stock.

Cabela's just informed me today my back order, already delayed by weeks, is again delayed for another four weeks. I have zero confidence it'll be in stock then.

I would of thought ammo supplies would of been coming back to normal by now. But was looking at different ammo sizes online, and lots are still on back order. Glad I had stocked up, but I don't want to shoot a lot at the range because of it.

Same thing as last week.

Wal-Mart: out of most everything (a reasonable abundance of birdshot).

Local gun dealers: out or outrageous.

Cabela's, MidwayUSA, similar: out of stock, sometimes projected for months. My Cabela's order from May is pushed out again this week.

If you are having trouble locating ammo try this search engine. It doesn't have all online sources in it's data base yet but it is improving daily. It lists brand, bullet type and weight, price per round and links you to the seller....works great!

Gun prices are going down. A Ruger Mini-14 can be purchased for under $600 on GunBroker. AR uppers are for sale at Midway. But don't quit stocking up, now YOU can get picky!

A nice resource, but be warned, some of the sites listed report false data of "in stock" items when in fact it isn't in stock. Some of Cabela's listings, for example.

Re: Ammo and other related items are coming back to the shelves

I still think many people are in the panic/hoarding mode and will be for months. It will take that long for people to realize the large quantity of ammunition they are storing is taking up space. Local gun shops do have some variety of ammunition and WalMarts sometimes have ammunition, but it's spotty at best and in the case of WalMart, rationed when it's available.

My neighbor and I attended a SoCal gunshow last Saturday. While waiting in line for thirty minutes, we saw many people leaving the show with cases of ammunition on handcarts. Inside the building, four to five people deep standing around a large ammunition distributor's table area. They came prepared - lots of ammunition, and it was moving quickly.
Take care,

I don't consider being prepared hoarding, I think it is sound planning. If the defecation does hit the rotary atmosphere oscillator I do have half a dozen male family members who will share in the ammo I have set back...I am preparing not just for myself but for my family. If by some miracle N'Obama doesn't force us into a very bad situation...meaning Congress finally grows some balls and says "No more"...then at the very worst I would be able to enjoy my shooting sports for the rest of my lifetime without having to buy ammo....and I shoot for fun a lot. And, as I doubt prices will ever drop back to pre N'Obama levels, I can always just lug it along to the guns shows where I set up tables at and easily sell it for a small profit.

I do see catastrophe coming however, I believe N'Obama is setting himself up to stay in charge long after this term is up. He is replacing Congress with his system of Czars, his educational programs are designed to create his own private army, his goal is to bankrupt this country in order to destroy it so he can become dictator for life. I know many will say I need my tin hat but think about it. What policy has he implemented so far that has actually been beneficial to the country? I can't think of any.

Re: Ammo and other related items are coming back to the shelves

I was in the local WM this morning. They just got in a case of WWB 9mm. I 'm well stocked but still bought 2 of the value packs: 100 rounds for $20. The other day (same store) I picked up four 550 round boxes of Winchester Wildcat JHP 22lr at $15 a box. That's typical for this store. So I'd say that ammo is coming back. At least in my area.

It's just a matter of time till they add another tax onto ammo. Perhaps some sort of tax on lead.
